New Development in Palmetto

Plan creates 136 homes

PALMETTO - A riverfront development proposed for the older section of Palmetto drew mixed responses from city officials during a workshop Monday.

The proposed development, named Bella Tramonto, would add to downtown 136 upscale homes and office and commercial space - a goal of the Palmetto Community Redevelopment Agency's master plan, created last year and endorsed by city commissioners.

But the plan also puts high-rises in a section of Palmetto where historical ambiance is important to city officials, business owners and residents. A couple of commissioners also said the tall buildings create a "wall" of concrete along the waterfront.
